MediaTek Beats Apple to Announcing 3nm Chips MediaTek tapes out first 3nm smartphone SoC with TSMC. MediaTek this week announced that it had successfully taped out its first flagship smartphone system-on-chip using TSMC's 3nm-class fabrication process, which technically means it has beaten Apple to the first 3nm SoC. Based on the information disclosed by the SoC developer, we are dealing with an application processor set to be made on TSMC's N3E manufacturing technology, which makes it one of the industry's first chip to use this node. Our focus is generally on PC hardware and mobile SoCs are generally not under our purview. That said, there are three aspects that matter in MediaTek's announcement: the fact that this is the industry's first officially disclosed N3E SoC, the announcement of a 3nm processor ahead of Apple, and MediaTek's relationship with Intel Foundry Services. Let's start with the most obvious one. Beating Apple to 3nm Formally, MediaTek bea...

NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4090 GRAPHICS CARD REVIEW

NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4090 GRAPHICS CARD REVIEW NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4090 GRAPHICS CARD DETAILED REVIEW NVIDIA RTX 40-series graphics cards are finally here. Powered by NVIDIA Ada  architecture, successor to their Ampere architecture, boasts of much higher  performance across the board. Be it ray-tracing, raster graphics or AI, the new  NVIDIA RTX 40 cards are poised to completely shatter all benchmarks. Whether  they do that, is something we’ll see.  SPECIFICATIONS NVIDIA is kicking off the launch with the high-end GPUs first and the RTX 4090 is  leading the pack with a massive GPU at the heart of the graphics card. The AD102  GPU is 608mm2 in size which is a little smaller than the GA102 Ampere GPU that  powered the RTX 3090 Ti. Shifting from Samsung 8nm to the much more efficient  TSMC N5 node has certainly helped reduce the size while squeezing in a lot more  transistors. The 628mm2 GA102 has 28.3 billion transistors whereas the AD1...

Radeon RX 7900 XTX vs. GeForce RTX 4080

Image
Radeon RX 7900 XTX vs. GeForce RTX 4080 It's time for a new mega benchmark comparing the Radeon RX  7900 XTX  head to head with the GeForce  RTX 4080  in a myriad of games. In total we have tested 54 titles, though some of those were tested using multiple configurations (DX11 vs DX12, ray tracing, and so forth) making up 62 game tests. For testing we've got our hands on the massive Gigabyte Aorus RTX 4080 Master -- we believe this is the largest graphics card on the market right now. Currently retailing for at least $1,350, that's over 12% above MSRP or about a $150 premium, but given the size and weight it kind of feels like you're at least getting that difference in the cooler. For comparison we have the Gigabyte Aorus 7900 XTX Elite which isn't a "Master" version as it's unavailable on the Radeon side, but even so the Aorus Elite is still a beast and we're sure many would argue this is also a more practical graphics card in terms of dimensions ...
